Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest would like to invite all girls in Kindergarten to 12th grade, to join our Juliette Gordon Low Virtual Birthday Open House!

You will get to participate in an information session where you can choose to learn about the troop experience, how Girl Scouts is involved with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) or learn all about the outdoor opportunities. Following that session girls will have the opportunity to do a Girl Scout activity like making SWAPS, learn the Girl Scout sign or sing some Girl Scouts songs. And at the end of your two sessions, participate in a registration session to get your questions answered and sign up to be a Girl Scout. 

 

Session one options - Girl Scout Information (starts at 5:00 PM MDT / 6:00 PM CDT)

Girl Scout Troops - During this session, you will learn all about the troop life, how a Girl Scout troop works, and the different programs available. You will also learn about other Girl Scout pathways you can take if a troop is not the perfect fit.

Girl Scouts and STEM - Interested in learning how Girl Scouts partners up to learn STEM? This is the session for you! In this session, you will learn from our STEM Director about how the Girl Scout program includes STEM, learn about new STEM programs coming up and all the Girl Scout STEM badges available for the girls to earn. 

Girl Scouts and the Outdoors -  In this session, you will have the opportunity to talk to our Director of Outdoor Program and Camping as she shares all the wonderful outdoor programs the girls get to participate in as Girl Scouts. You will learn about our Day Camps, Summer Camp, and much more.

Session two options - Girl Scout Activity (Starts at 5:30 PM MDT / 6:30 PM CDT)

SWAPS - Girls will learn all about our founder Juliette Gordon Low, by making a SWAPS (Special Whatchamacallits Affectionately Pinned Somewhere).

Supplies needed for this activity are:

  • Pearl beads (white pony beads will also work)
  • Clear Fishline, thread, or white pipe cleaners
  • Scissors.
  • One (1) sheet of white card stock. 
  • Pencil or pen.
  • One (1) safety pin.

Girl Scout Sign - Learn all about the Girl Scout Sign, Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law.

Supplies needed for this activity are:

  • Two (2) white copy paper.
  • Scissors.
  • Glue.
  • Color pencils, markers, or Crayons. 

Girl Scout Songs - If you love to sing, this is the session for you! Learn Girl Scout songs that will be part of your Girl Scout journey. 

Supplies for session two are responsibility of the participants, council will not provide any materials. 

Session three - Registration (6:00 PM MDT / 7:00 PM CDT) Optional

During this session, you will have the opportunity to talk to one of our membership staff as they explain the registration process, the troop dynamic and how you can be part of the experience with your daughter. You will also have an opportunity to ask questions and meet other girls and parents that will start the Girl Scout journey with you. 

All girls who participate in session one and two will get their first Girl Scout patch in the mail.
